why 'fix' is in the name
About fixmytranslation
A translation agency built around one uncomfortable but useful fact: a lot of translations need fixing.

“Most agencies treat a bad translation as an embarrassing edge case. We built a service around it.”
fixmytranslation started from a simple observation: a huge share of the translation work that actually needs doing isn't a blank page. It's a document that already has words on it — a contract translated by a well-meaning bilingual employee, a product page run through a machine tool and never checked, a certified document a cheaper vendor got wrong the first time. Most language service providers treat that kind of work as a footnote — a quick proofreading add-on to their main business of translating from scratch.
We think it deserves to be treated as its own discipline, because it is one. Diagnosing what's wrong with an existing translation — a collapsed register, a false friend, an idiom rendered word-for-word, a date format that will confuse a US reader — takes a different kind of attention than translating a blank page. It's closer to editing than to authorship. So we built the agency around that skill first, and offered translation-from-scratch, localization, and transcription as the other ways people end up needing language done right.
We're based in Elgin, Illinois, and we work with individuals and businesses across the United States, remotely. Every document that comes through this site is read by a human linguist before anyone tells you what's wrong with it — and every document that leaves is corrected or written by a human linguist too. We don't display certifications we don't hold, or reviews we can't show you where they came from. We'd rather earn your trust with a process you can see than a badge you can't verify.
What we promise
- Every word, corrected by a human.
- 24-hour turnaround on most orders.
- Free revisions for 14 days.
- NDA available on any order.
How we select linguists
- 01
Native-language fluency in the target language.
Every linguist translates or corrects into their native language — the direction where nuance, idiom, and register are hardest to fake.
- 02
Vetted subject-matter experience.
Legal, medical, and technical work goes to linguists with demonstrated experience in that subject — not a generalist stretched across every field.
- 03
Paired for independent review.
Every linguist works alongside a second, independent linguist who reviews their work before it's delivered — nobody's translation goes out unchecked, including ours.
- 04
Ongoing quality review.
We track the revisions and issues that come back on each linguist's work and adjust who we assign accordingly — quality is monitored, not assumed.
